Student First: Hopkins Students Wins State Composition Award

written music from student compositionIn April 2022, Hopkins Junior High 8th grader Akshay Murthy won first place award in Division 4 (ages 13 and under) at the annual Music Teachers Association of California’s Composers Today statewide composition contest.

Murthy's composition, “Suite in G minor,” is a 22-minute piece composed for keyboard in the Baroque style. Click here to listen to all seven movements. 

Murthy plays piano, tabla and tuba in the Hopkins Symphonic band, and has been composing original music for several years. He is a two time winner of FUSD’s young composer award, and earned an Honorable Mention for a Fugue he entered to the Composers Today competition in 2021.
