Posted 7/8/20

CJ CammackIt is with great excitement that the Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) Board of Education announces the unanimous selection of the District’s next Superintendent, Christopher ‘CJ’ Cammack. Mr. Cammack is currently Superintendent of the Martinez Unified School District, where he has served with excellence and a demonstrated record of successful leadership for the past four years.

The Board was thoroughly impressed by Cammack's dedication to student success, his focus on the overall health and safety of both students and staff, successful collaboration with families and labor partners, fiscal leadership, and an overall record of building positive relationships throughout the community. Cammack values the diversity of our FUSD student population and will be focused on ensuring the highest level of success for all students throughout the Fremont Unified School District. Cammack is excited to be provided the opportunity to serve the Fremont community, while honoring the history of accomplishments and success created by our incredible staff members.

Cammack began his career as an elementary teacher in the Mount Diablo Unified School District while also coaching baseball at Head Royce School. He later moved into administration with the Martinez Unified School District where he served as a middle school vice principal and elementary school principal, before being promoted to district office administration. At the district office level, Cammack served as a Director of Student Services/Special Education before being promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Administrative Services. Prior to serving as Superintendent at Martinez Unified, he served as the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District.

CJ Cammack’s leadership experience ranges from Special Education to Human Resources, elementary to secondary, in both large and medium-size school districts. His leadership combined with his demonstrated record of success and collaboration, were just some of the points that elevated him as the top choice from a field of many highly-qualified candidates.

During the July 8th FUSD Board of Education meeting, Cammack shared the following, “I am humbled and honored by the opportunity to serve as the next Superintendent of the Fremont Unified School District. Fremont has an excellent reputation for high achievement, inclusion, student and parent engagement, and a very involved and supportive community. These characteristics are also reflective of talented and dedicated staff across the district, strong leadership, and established relationships between our schools and the community. I look forward to joining the FUSD family as soon as possible and learning even more about how I can best serve our staff, our students, and the entire Fremont community.”

Mr. Cammack will officially start with FUSD on August 1st. We are very eager to have him get started. Please join us in welcoming CJ Cammack to the FUSD community!
