I am excited to be teaching SHAPE Seminar and Sports Therapy again this year.
I started out as a high school student in a ROP Sports Therapy class. I went on to UC Davis where I earned a BS in Physical Education. While at Davis I had the opportunity to participate in a 4-year internship with their athletic training department. After graduation I became a Certified Athletic Trainer and worked as a teacher and athletic trainer for a high school in San Jose. I also continued my education, earning two teaching credentials and a master's degree. My journey has now come full circle, as I am now teaching Sports Therapy in a ROP program. This is my 6th year teaching at Irvington for MVROP.
About the classes:
My philosophy for teaching is that the students should have fun, be engaged and learn something at the same time. I recognize that not all students will pursue a career in health/medicine, therefore I emphasize skills that they will be able to use throughout their life. As an ROP teacher, there is also an emphasis placed on personal responsibility and professionalism. Therefore, there are a few things that are different about my classes:
1. Students enrolled in a MVROP class CAN receive a D or F.
2. I do not give contracts in order to raise grades.
3. I do not give extra credit.
4. All MVROP classes are variable unit classes which means students must be present in class in order to earn their units.
All details about classroom policies and expectations can be found in the course syllabi.
