I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for your continued support this school year. I am extremely proud of the efforts by the entire MSJE staff and student body. Our combined efforts have truly entrenched MSJE as an educational setting where students strive to be the best they can be and be successful in and outside the classroom. The end result of course is MSJE being one of the top elementary schools in FUSD. I wish everyone a restful summer and looking forward to an exciting 2017 – 2018 school year.
MSJE’s School Vision: All students will be valued, encouraged, and challenged in a collaborative learning environment.
MSJE’s Mission Statement: Through rigorous standards, character education, and a safe learning environment, students will be provided with multiple opportunities to develop the skills they need to become successful learners.

End of the Year
Even though testing has ended, instruction continues. I know many parents have contacted the office about leaving early for vacation. We do not encourage this. The absences will be unexcused and your child will miss valuable instruction. The grading period does not end until the end of school, so absences between now and June 15th will have an effect on the final report card. Please keep your child in school until the last day of school, June 15th.
All of the following information is available on the online calendar: Minimum days are June 12th to the 14th (dismissal at 1:25 & 1:30). The school office will close at 1:15 p.m. on June 15th and will re-open at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 16th.
Maze Day for 2017-2018
MSJE will be holding our first Maze Day on August 23rd and 24th. The purpose of Maze Day is to give out classroom assignments to parents in a confidential way and to collect important paperwork prior to school starting. Only parents or legal guardians can attend. All necessary forms will be mailed to you in August. Detailed information and schedules for Maze Day is posted on MSJE’s web site. www.fmtusd.org/msje
MSJE’s field day is on Monday, June 12th from 8:45 to 11:10 a.m. Please have your student come prepared to have fun. Students should wear a hat, have a water bottle and put on sunscreen. We need parent volunteers to make this event a success. Please contact the office or PTC to help. Thank you in advance for your continued support of MJSE.
School Site Council Members for 2017-2018
The following parents will be members of our School Site Council for the upcoming school year:
Mr. Eugene Choi
Mrs. Joanna Scafuto
Mrs. Elna Mehta
Mrs. Utsa Ray-Singh
Mr. Philip Ngai
Feel free to contact our members should you wish to express your thoughts about MSJE.
All student medication needs to be picked up from the office by the end of the school year. Medications must be picked up by a parent or guardian unless your student is authorized (current contract on file) to self-carry his/her medication. The district will pick up and discard any medication that is left in office on June 16th.
If your student is attending summer school, the medication, including the doctor’s order, must be picked up the last day of school. It then needs to be taken to the summer school site on the first day of summer school by the parent. Please make sure that the medication doesn’t expire prior to July 31, 2017. The last day of summer school the student’s medication must be picked up by the parent from the summer school site.

Volunteers Needed for Traffic Control: 2017 -2108
Safety Patrol is in need of adult volunteers to help out with traffic control for the 2017-2018 school year. Please consider volunteering 15 to 30 minutes a day to ensure the safety of our students at arrival and dismissal times. We would appreciate any amount of time you can spare in helping out. Please contact the front office if you are able to lend a hand and help out. Thank you to the MANY parents who volunteered countless hours to keep our students safe this school year.
Attention Parents of 6th Grade Students
For the 2017 / 2018 school year, California Law (AB 354) requires an additional immunization called Tdap in order for your student to advance to or enter 7th grade. The adolescent whooping cough/pertussis booster shot, (Tdap) must be given on or after age 7 to meet this requirement. Valid proof must show: 1) type of shot given, 2) date, 3) provider’s signature/stamp. The Final Date to SUBMIT Immunization records (including Whooping Cough: Tdap) at your Elementary School is, Tuesday, June 13th , 2017. After this date you must WAIT until August, and take the official record of vaccinations to the Junior High your child will be attending. If parents have not provided proof to their Jr. High School by the First Day of School, your student CANNOT attend school. You can provide proof to your Elementary School Site up until the last day of school.
Personal beliefs exemptions
Effective January 1, 2016, Personal Beliefs Exemptions will no longer be an option for the vaccines that are currently required for entry into school or child care in California. Personal belief exemptions filed at a school or child care facility before January 1, 2016 will remain valid until the student enrolls in the next grade span, typically at Tk/kindergarten or 7th grade. Students entering a home-based private school or an independent study program without classroom-based instruction are not subject to immunization requirements for entry.
Your child can not receive a class schedule or attend Junior High until this requirement is met.
First Day of School for 2017- 2018 School Year – Wednesday, August 30th, 2017
All students are expected to report to school on the first day, Wednesday, August 31, 2016. Students who have not attended the first two days of school will be dropped at the end of the third day of school. Students who are dropped will not be guaranteed a seat at the school and may have to be overloaded to other schools upon return. The only exceptions will be students who are absent due to illness. If a student is absent the first three days due to illness, parents or guardians must notify the school every day the student is absent. Seats will not be held for students on extended vacations or other optional activities, whether or not the school is notified.
Supply List for 2017-2018
The supply list for 2017-2018 is posted online at www.fremont.k12.ca.us/msje
Change of Address/Residency:
Please be reminded that it is the responsibility of parents under Board Policy 5111 to notify the school office within five (5) days if they move in or out of the attendance area. Any move within the attendance area still requires four (4) new proofs of residency to verify the new address. Failure to do so will result in revocation of the student’s placement at the school.
All flyers are posted on Peachjar and can be viewed under eflyers on MSJE’s home page. www.fmtusd.org/msje
Remember to read the Announcements and Headlines on the web page too. Additional information is posted there as it comes up on a day to day basis.
