COVID-19 Precautions

With regard to COVID-19, it is considered safest for parents to transport their students to and from school each day. However, it is understood that this is not a viable option for all families.

To ensure the health and safety of students and staff on the school bus, FUSD and the Transportation Department has taken the following steps to mitigate the spread of COVID-19:

  • Daily Health Check questionnaire required to be filled out by staff and parents each day.
  • Temperatures are taken before boarding the school bus (Note: students with a temperature of 100.0° F or greater will NOT be transported).
  • High-touch areas on the school bus (railings, seats, etc.) are disinfected after each route.
  • Windows remain open, weather permitting, to improve air circulation on the school bus.
  • Masks/Face Coverings
    • Masks/face coverings are required to be worn by Transportation Department staff at all times on the school bus
    • Masks/face coverings are required to be worn by students at all times on the school bus, unless the student cannot do so due to medical or developmental reasons.
  • Bus Seating/Passenger Capacity
    • Students are placed in assigned seats to maintain social distance of 3 feet or more per present CDC guidance.
    • Students are loaded starting in the back of the school bus and unloaded starting from the front of the school bus to reduce crossing paths.
    • Larger school buses that typically have a capacity of 78 passengers can only transport approximately 26 students.
    • Smaller school buses that typically have a capacity of 16 passengers can only transport approximately 8 students.
