    NEW STUDENTS TO FUSD

     

    IMPORTANT DATES FOR CURRENT FUSD STUDENTS/FAMILIES:

    • February 15, 2018: Counselor hosted Parent Information Session in cafeteria from 8:15-9:15 for parents of current 9th-11th grade students.
    • February 16, 2018: Counselors distribute registration forms to current 9th and 11th grade students through English classes.  The registration process, selecting courses, and online registration is discussed. Student questions addressed.
    • February 17, 2018 - February 25, 2018: Online Student Portal window is open. Students must submit course request online during this time.
    • February 21, 2018 & February 22, 2018: Counselors distribute registration forms to current 10th grade students through World History classes during their College & Career units. The registration process, selecting courses, a four year plan, and online registration is discussed. Student questions addressed.
    • February 26, 2018 - March 29, 2018: Counselors meet with current 9th through 11th grade students individually during their English class to review course requests and to verify prerequisites. Student questions/concerns addressed.*
    • March 2, 2018: Counselors distribute registration forms to current 8th grade students through Horner English classes.  The registration process, selecting courses, and online registration is discussed. Student questions addressed.
    • March 8, 2018: IHS Open House and Freshmen Orientation at 6 PM.

    DUE DATES FOR REGISTRATION FORMS (STUDENTS GIVE TO CURRENT ENGLISH TEACHER)

    • February 26, 2018: Registration forms are due to English teachers for all current 9th-11th grade Irvington High students.
    • March 12, 2018: Registration forms are due to English teachers for all current 8th grade Horner Junion High students.

    LANGUAGE PLACEMENT EXAMS (CURRENT 8TH GRADERS ONLY)

    CHINESE

    • March 21, 2018: Chinese placement tests will be held at Irvington High School from 3:10 PM to 4:10 PM. Chinese 2 placement test will be held in room 41, Chinese 3 in room 104, and Chinese 4 in room 47.
    • Placement tests are for current 8th grade students that want to take Chinese level 2 or higher in 9th grade due to prior knowledge.
    • Students from Horner Junior High School will sign up with Ms. Lai, the school counselor, and indicate that they will take traditional character or simplified character version.
    • Non Horner students need to contact Mrs. Yan at dyan@fremont.k12.ca.us to sign up for the Chinese placement tests.
    • Completing a placement test means that the student is committing to taking language in the 9th grade regardless of the results.
    • Students will know the level they are taking when they receive their schedule during MAZE Days (August).

    SPANISH

    • March 21, 2018: Spanish placement tests will be held at Irvington High School from 3:10 PM to 4:10 PM. Spanish 2 and native speaker placement test will be held in room 51.
    • Placement tests are for current 8th grade students that want to take Spanish level 2 or higher in 9th grade due to prior knowledge.
    • Students from Horner Junior High School will sign up with Ms. Lai, the school counselor, and indicate that they will take Spanish 2 or Native Speaker Language version.
    • Non Horner JHS students need to contact Mr. Ballado aballado@fremont.k12.ca.us to sign up for the Spanish placement tests.

    FRENCH

    • Placement tests are for current 8th grade students that want to take French level 2 or higher in 9th grade due to prior knowledge.
    • Completing a placement test means that the student is committing to taking language in the 9th grade regardless of the results.

    *Due to counselors not being in their offices during the registration window, parent appointments cannot be accommodated. Students should talk with their counselor about any questions/concerns.
