What is GAFE?
Google Apps for Education (GAFE) is available to all teachers, staff, and students in the school district. GAFE is a suite of secure tools for creation, real-time collaboration, and communication on any web-connected device. Google does not serve ads to our domain. At this time (5/2016) the district does not use Gmail for our students.
Drive - cloud storage service - save files in Drive, access them from any device and share them instantly. No more sending attachments or merging different versions.
Calendar - shareable calendars that integrate seamlessly with Gmail, Drive, Contacts, and Sites.
Docs, Sheets, and Slides (presentation) - Create and edit documents, spreadsheets, and presentations right in your browser. Multiple people can work at the same time, and every change is saved automatically.
Sites - Launch a website for your class, your team, or a project with our easy site builder.
By obtaining Student and Parent signatures in the "Student Use of Technology Agreement" from the Parent/Guardian & Student Handbook (scroll down for link) Google Apps for Education services are in compliance with COPPA (FAQ on FTC site). The primary goal of COPPA is to place parents in control over what information is collected from their young children online. The Rule was designed to protect children under age 13 while accounting for the dynamic nature of the Internet.
The GAFE Core Services - Gmail, Calendar, Classroom, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Contacts, Groups, Vault and Hangouts -- are the heart of Google’s educational offering to schools. FUSD does not enable all of these services at this time (5/2016). Students’ personal data in these Core Services is only used to provide the services themselves, so students can do things like collaborate on assignments using Google Docs. There are no ads in these Core Services, and student data in these services is not used for advertising purposes.
"I do my best to take great care of our family and student information and maintaining privacy is a one of my most important goals."
~ Joseph Siam, FUSD Chief Technology Officer
