Walters Academy is a one week long program open to all Walters incoming seventh graders. This unique program gives the students a glimpse of life in junior high. Moving from sixth grade to seventh can be a bit frightening for many students and parents. The Academy is designed to assist both groups with a successful and positive transition to junior high. This summer will be the 22nd year the Academy has welcomed students to Walters. Over 2,100 new students have taken the chance to learn about the school, meet new friends, and feel like they are a part of Walters before classes begin.
The cost of the Walters Academy is $65 per student. This includes staff salaries; daily snacks; a binder with dividers and supplies; a PTSA sponsored picnic for student and parents; and a Walters t-shirt.
Teachers for Walters Academy are fully credentialed Walters teachers.
All questions about the Academy should be directed to Kristy Ranaweera, Academy Director at (510) 656-7211 ext. 28032 or (805) 338-9662 (summer).
Please note that during the Academy, NO transportation or food service will be provided. A light snack and drink will be given to students every day. If your student has special dietary needs, please send a snack. Each day students will participate in a number of activities including tours of the school, a treasure hunt, team building activities, mock school days and refresher activities on organization. All these things will help the students familiarize themselves with the campus and junior high life.
FRIDAY FAMILY PICNIC
On the last day of the Academy a picnic lunch will be provided to students and their families by Walters PTSA. Come with the family to see what the students have been doing, eat some food and play some games. Students will receive their Walters Junior High T-shirts so they are ready for the beginning of the year!!
