Message to parents of 4th, 5th and 6th Graders about Health, Puberty and Sexuality Education
On May 2, 2018, the Board voted to approve the staff-recommended Sexual Health and Puberty Education curriculum for grades 7-9, which will take place in classrooms prior to the end of this school year 2018. Parents can continue to opt their children out of part, or all, of the lessons. Though the Trustees approved a Board Policy to provide instruction for grades 4-6, they voted down the recommended curriculum.  A task force will be convened after July 1 to examine other materials and make a new recommendation to the Board by January 2019, for implementation in spring 2019. There will not be any Health, Puberty and Sexuality Education for elementary students until then.

  • Here is an update from Dr. Kim Wallace, the Superintendent of the Fremont Unified School District, about the Middle School transition of Walter's Jr. High.

The Board provided direction at the meeting last week to delay the opening of Walters Middle School to the 2019-20 school year (which puts it on the same timeline as Horner). Due to unexpected California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) additional requirements, construction on the new building will not be completed until November of 2018 at the earliest.

While the delay was not in our plan, we believe that having a longer runway to develop the STEAM program at Walters, train teachers, identify curriculum, and have classrooms move-in ready on the first day of school are all benefits to the decision. Please communicate this out to your families so they know that Kennedy Attendance Area 5th graders will attend their home elementary school next year (2018-19) as 6th graders and their current 4th graders will be the first incoming middle schoolers in their 6th grade year in 2019-20.

  • please answer questionsDear Parents,
The District is considering a proposal to make Walters JH a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) Magnet school when it transitions to a middle school (6-8) in 2018-2019. Integral to this process is parent feedback. Please use the link below to complete this brief survey offering your perspective on this proposal.

    Suggested Supply List for 2017/2018

    Cleaning Supplies:

FUSD has gone green! Because of this, we will no longer be using Lysol wipes or any other cleaning supplies with bleach. We know that these types of cleaning supplies have been listed on our Back to School supply lists. Instead of bringing Lysol wipes to school as part of your child's Back to School supply list, we would appreciate it if you could bring Baby Wipes.

    Headphones and Ear Buds:

We understand that there is some confusion in regard to the headphones/ear buds that are part of the Back to School supply lists. So that children do not have to share when they are using the computers at school, we are requesting parents to send one pair of ear buds or headphones to school in a labeled ziploc bag. Please be sure to write your child's name clearly on the ziploc bag. Thank you!
