Fuel and FirePosted by Dave Domelle at 10/16/2009 10:00:00 AM It's been a couple of weeks since I have communicated to the Titan community, but it was with good reason. My lovely wife and I had an opportunity to go to Hawaii at the expense of her employer, Coca-Cola. Man, I love her job. We were able to take our son and his lovely wife along as well. A good time was had by all. It is good that this trip happens right before the season starts since my wife always seems to lose time with me to the team. It gives us a chance to connect before a long season.
One of the favorite things we did, besides spend time with each other on the beautiful beaches, was to tour Pearl Harbor. What a moving experience! Several times during the tour, my wife was tearing up and I was emotional as well. The sacrifices of these young men was moving and the courage of the survivors as they fought to hold of the attackers while attempting to save their comrades was just incredible. It made me proud to be an American and made me think about our young men and women in foreign countries now trying to protect our country. We live in a great nation, even with it's flaws and I am proud of our service personal.
Speaking of being proud, I am proud to have the coaches and players that I have with me now. I was able to go to Hawaii without worrying that the program would continue to work while I was gone. My coaching staff pushed the guys and the guys responded. This is a great group of staff and players. It is going to be a good team.
Coming back and watching our guys compete in open gyms is just making me wish the season was starting today. I have never seen the competition in our open gyms that I have seen with this group of guys and my coaches are in agreement. These guys are just flat out getting after it against each other. I see the fruits of their labor from the 3 day a week workouts that we have. These guys are flying up and down the court and their work ethic is the best of any team that I have coached. I know that these guys are going to surprise some teams this year and that they are going to do better than what some people expect. Hurry up and get here November 9th, the 1st day of practice.
We have a couple of fundraisers coming up. On Wednesday, October 21, there is a fundraiser at Jack's Sports Pub and Grill. The fundraiser is all day and 15% of all food sales that we generate goes to the basketball team. You will need a flyer for them to keep track of who is participating for the team. Contact me at ddomelle@fremont.k12.ca.us and I will email you a flyer. We will also be doing a free throw shoot-a-thon in the next couple of weeks. We are trying to raise money for new uniforms. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Tonight our football team takes on Mission at Tak. JV starts at 4:30 and Varsity starts at 7:00. Come support them as they take on the Warriors.
Until next week, GO TITANS!
