Brookvale Parent Volunteer Information 2013-14

Brookvale emphasizes and supports the use of parent volunteers within the school community while ensuring the safety of all students at Brookvale. Parents offering to assist a teacher in the classroom will be asked to complete a parent volunteer form after speaking directly with the classroom teacher and return the form to the front office for processing. The intent of the contract is to develop a process for using Parent volunteers in the classroom while promoting effective communications with the Brookvale staff. School safety is a top priority. By keeping track of parents who have agreed to work in classrooms, we can ensure that every adult who is on campus should be on campus. We can keep track of those individuals if presented with an emergency situation during the school day. We thank you for your support with this safety endeavor and look forward to working with you on a volunteer basis at Brookvale!

Parent Volunteer Expectations for Brookvale Elementary School

All information that a parent comes across in the classroom is considered confidential and should not be discussed with other students, parents or staff outside of the classroom environment.

For safety reasons, parents who volunteer at Brookvale should check into the office prior to assisting in the classroom and sign inside of the Parent Volunteer Binder. Parents should list the classroom and timeframe they will be in that classroom. This way all school personnel know you are on campus and also know your exact whereabouts in the event of a disaster.

Parents are asked to check in with the classroom teacher and carry out the directives of the classroom teacher so that all instructional activities can be addressed in a manner that meets the needs of the teachers daily lesson plans.

If a parent has arranged with the teacher to come on a specific day to assist with classroom activities and the parent is unable to attend for any reason, we ask that the parent contact the Brookvale office in order to get a message to the teacher so they can modify or adjust that specific activity.

Parents are asked to wear a Parent Volunteer I.D. so that support staff can identify the parent while on campus. (You will still need to sign in daily)

Parents should not bring other children onto campus with them while volunteering. This is FUSD Board Policy as this practice could lead to safety issues and jeopardize the quality of instruction within the classroom.

Parents are important in the classroom and we encourage kind, positive and enthusiastic comments and actions by all Brookvale community members. Please be aware that anything adults say or do is observed by children.

The success of a school is directly related to PARENT INVOLVEMENT! Get involved, get excited and enjoy your volunteer time at Brookvale Elementary School. We thank you for support both academically and socially. You may pick your parent volunteer contracts up in the Brookvale school office.
