ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNERS

This all-in-one, comprehensive Teacher’s Edition contains daily lessons for both whole group and small group instruction. The whole group instruction includes Visual Vocabulary and Interactive Question-Response lessons centered around the sheltered Practice Readers and

ELD Wonders California Content Readers. The small group instruction is tailored to each student’s level of language acquisition and builds reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. For students at lower language levels, prerequisite skills are taught. Teachers simply follow the levels indicated on the purple tabs to provide the just-right instruction. Lessons and activities for Newcomers are also provided.

Language Development Practice Book provides multiple opportunities for English learners to practice for mastery of skills and strategies. Includes practice pages for phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, grammar, writing, and more. Graphic organizers and writing frames are provided for support.

Photo-word cards introduce specifi c vocabulary from the program. The photos are intended to preteach vocabulary to English learners and Approaching Level students, as well as offer additional, meaningful language and concept support to these students. The cards are divided into three types: Key Words, Function Words and Phrases, Basic Words. The routine on the back is based on the research of Diane August and includes research-based SDAIE techniques.
