Measure K Citizens' Oversight Committee

The Measure K parcel tax was approved by the voters of Fremont in November 2010 for 5 years ending FY 2015-16.  Measure K funds provide Fremont schools with stable funding for quality local education and programs that cannot be taken away by the state, including:
  • Maintaining math, science, reading and writing programs
  • Keeping school libraries open
  • Supporting classroom/learning technology
  • Maintaining college and workforce preparation programs
  • Retaining qualified teachers 

As part of the Measure K parcel tax, a Citizens' Oversight Committee was formed to provide independent oversight to ensure that the parcel tax monies received by the District are spent in accordance with the commitment made to the voters of Fremont.  The Committee consists of 11 seats that include 2 local business/community members who live or conduct business in Fremont, 6 parent/guardian members of current Fremont Unified School District (FUSD) students, 1 student representative, and 2 senior members.  

 
 
The Committee is currently inviting community members to send in their applications/nominations for the following:

How are Measure K Dollars spent?
The annual tax of $53 per parcel generates approximately $3.1 million per year.  The parcel tax monies fund the following positions:
  • All Library Media Technicians at the Elementary, Junior High and High Schools (32.04 FTE)
  • All Librarians at the High Schools (5.00 FTE)
  • Computer Prep Teachers at the Elementary Schools (6.60 FTE)
