Irvington High School Associated Student Body The Irvington High School ASB is the Student Government at Irvington. Every student that goes to Irvington High School is a member of ASB and the 42 Elected and Appointed students in Leadership serve as the executive body of the ASB. The student government serves as a voice for the student in addition to organizing many events on campus. The following is a list of many of the big activities that ASB plans for each school year. Freshmen Orientation (Summer Bridge & Link) Senioritis Dodgeball Elections Irvington High School Leadership Course Syllabus Course Description This course is for elected and appointed student body officers. The purpose of this course is to develop and encourage leadership skills, to plan and prepare student body sponsored events and to manage all student body financial transactions. Course Outcomes Introduction to and development of leadership skills Text Associated Student Body Accounting Manual & Desk Reference 2007, FCMAT GradinG Positive and Professional Behaviors 15% Positive and professional Behaviors Students in this class are school leaders and represent Irvington High School both on and off campus. Students are considered leaders and role models and will strive to be a positive influence on those around them by holding themselves to the highest standards of conduct and attitude. Be in class and on time Productivity Each student is expected to consistently step forward and volunteer for projects and/or committees. 50% of a student’s grade will be based on taking part in organizing and facilitating activities/projects and being an active member of the team. “Hitch-hiking”, not volunteering, will result in a failing grade. We are a team; you must do your share..that’s why you’re here. The number of hours that will be required outside of class will be determined at the beginning of the quarter and will vary based on the number of events. Some hours will be considered mandatory, if you are unable to attend a mandatory event you will need to find another student to take your place at that event. quizzes There will be 5 quizzes given out each semester. Quizzes can be based upon classroom procedure, reading assignments, or class room discussion. Quizzes cannot be retaken for a better grade; if there is an excused absence on the day of the quiz then the student has as many days as they missed to make up the quiz. Activity portfolio The activity portfolio is designed to be a useful tool for student leaders. The portfolio will be a growing document that chronicles students as they grow into leaders. Portfolios will be divided into five sections: calendar (committee calendar, to do lists, todo doing done), notes (class notes, brainstorming, event planning), assignments (past quizzes, handouts, worksheets, returned paper work for events), reflections (one for every event your team plans, additional reflections as assigned), transition notes (once a month write down notes for the student who will have your job next year). The portfolio will be collected at the end of each quarter and graded based on completeness. Last Modified on May 8, 2013
