English as a Second Language

English as a Second Language
Our award-winning ESL program offers a variety of classes in reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, business communication, listening and speaking, and pronunciation. Seven levels of ESL, from beginning to advanced, will help you improve your English skills and build your confidence on the job, in school, and in the community.  Day, evening, and weekend classes are available to choose from, including distance learning courses. Our friendly experienced  instructors will help you achieve your educational and career goals.  Certificates of achievement are awarded to students as they complete  each level of ESL. Graduates of the ESL Program get employed or get promoted at work and move on to our High School Diploma and GED programs, and to community colleges.

Our ESL Computer Lab is among the best in the Bay Area. Students come here during their ESL classes to practice English using a variety of ESL software and websites. In the VESL computer class students work on various projects in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc. Last year we were able to purchase the total Rosetta Stone software program version 3 with the funds the school received from the state thanks to the learning benchmarks our students made on the standardized CASAS tests. Rosetta Stone software provides many hours of practice for all ESL levels and helps  students learn English faster.

Citizenship Preparation classes provide instruction and practice necessary to pass the citizenship interview and become a U.S. citizen. They are offered twice each quarter in 5-week cycles.
