The Niles Junior Safety Patrol Program is responsible for helping students that are transported to and from school by car using the designated passenger loading and unloading zone (The Zone) located on School Street.
Students entering 5th or 6th grade and are in good academic ("C" average) and citizenship ("B" average) standing may participate in the program and volunteer for 1 to 2 shifts per week. Parents are also encouraged to participate and volunteer to act as Adult Shift Captains for each shift.
Each Junior Safety Patrol shift is approximately 25-30 minutes long and requires 1 adult shift captain and 5 student members. Morning shifts begin at 8:00 A.M. and end at 8:30 A.M. Afternoon shifts begin at 2:50 P.M. and end at 3:15 P.M. Wednesday primary release (grades 1st-3rd) and early dismissal day shifts begin at 1:00 P.M. and end at 1:25 P.M.
If you would like to participate in the Junior Safety Patrol Program, please complete and submit a Junior Safety Patrol Applicationfor each student or adult applying. Completed applications should be submitted to your child"s teacher. Applications completed during the summer months can be completed online and forwarded to the Niles Traffic Safety Coordinator.
The Niles Traffic Safety Coordinator will contact applicants in late August for orientation, swearing in and scheduling. The program begins on the first day of school.
