Welcome to the Mattos Library webpage. My name is Therese Baeza and this is my eighth year as the librarian at Mattos. Our library is the hub of literacy on our campus. I am continuously searching for new and exciting books to add to our collection that support our Treasures reading program as well as titles to enrich the science magnet component of our school. In addition we have a very strong Accelerated Reader program; last year our students read over 114 million words using this program.
Students in grades first - sixth visit the library once a week for 30 minutes with their classes. Kinder visits every other week for 30 minutes. Checkout is: Kinder/1st & 2nd grade - 2 books, 3rd to 6th grade - 3 books. Parents may check out books too, just come by the library to set up an account. The cost of replacement for lost or damaged books is set by the District, $25 for hardbacks and $10 for paperbacks.
I want to urge all students to use Elibrary, the district's online library catalog from home. Students can look for materials needed for projects and their availability before they come to the library. This will better utilize their time in the library and help me tremendously in serving the students. Grades 3 - 6 receive orientation each year using Elibrary.

Without community service, we would not have a strong quality of life... It's the way in which we ourselves grow and develop.
