Dear Parents and Guardians,

One of our goals for the students at Gomes is to develop their communication skills which will allow them to become effective communicators. But families play the most important role in building the skills of communication.
Communication is a necessary tool for everyone. It requires constant effort but provides great rewards when it occurs.  Communication is a two-way street. As families communicate their feelings, thoughts and ideas, honestly and openly  – feelings of care respect and love, as well as, unhappiness and anger – stronger relationships are able to develop.
When our children are first born, we can’t wait for them to utter their first words. But even after children learn to  speak, communications between parents and children can often be a challenge. Both children and parents often feel that they simply are not being heard. Helping our children develop the ability to communicate effectively is an
important part of a parent’s job.
Learning the art of really talking and listening to our children is one of the most powerful ways we can show our love and help our children succeed in school and life. As they become effective communicators, they will be able to present themselves well, which is critical to success in life.

                                        - Mr. Whipple

A couple of things to keep in mind:

1.  Come as early as you can as those travelling on Highway 17 and other approaching  highways will encounter heavy traffic.

2.  Carpool as much as possible.

3.  Approach the site from the back - Park on Delaware Avenue or Natural Bridge Drive.  Parking is free and only a short walk to the site.  Do NOT park on Swanton.  There is paid parking on the front entrance on W. Cliff.

4.  Alcohol is prohibited at the beach site.

The family appreciates your love and support and looks forward to celebrating Greg with you.

Dear Gomes Community,

All of us at Gomes are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of Greg Muck.  His presence will be sorely missed.  He was liked and respected by all those who knew him.  The students who were in his class have been profoundly touched by this tragedy.
We can all take some solace in the good and lasting work that Greg did in his too-brief lifetime.  The results of his outstanding teaching and his beneficial influence on students will live on.
If you wish to send your condolences to the family, you may drop off correspondence at the office and it will be forwarded.

  • Clarification for the 6th grade parents regarding the Pertusis immunization requirement for 7th grade. The correct phone number for the W.O.W. Mobile Health Clinic for immunizations is 510 608-3203. These resources are for families without insurance or with Medi-Cal. The incorrect phone number was on the flyer that was distributed in the 7th grade enrollment packets.
