Dear Parents and Guardians,

How children see themselves will make all the difference in how they will achieve in life.  There are many ways you can build upon and enhance your child’s self-esteem.  The general approach begins with developing a sense of security.  Children need to feel secure in their families, school and their outside community world.  This is hard considering many of the changes that are going on now in the family and world.   To strengthen your child’s sense of security:

  • Let your child know what kind of behavior you expect.
  • Enforce your rules consistently in ways that build your child’s sense of responsibility.
  • Build feelings of trust.
  • Help your child feel safe.

In letting your child know what kind of behavior to expect, you need to define the rules and set limits so that your child has no question about what to do and what not to do.  Research shows that when children are clear in expectations, they feel more secure than when parents are either too strict or too permissive.

The best techniques that can be used to set limits and enforce rules are those that reward positive behavior, such as giving of free time, a special trip, one on one time, or an allowance.

These changes address the requirement for the child passenger restraint system in motor vehicles in California. This change now requires that “….a driver shall not transport on a highway in a motor vehicle, as defined in paragraph (1) of subdivision (3) of section 27315, a child or ward who is under eight years of age, meeting applicable federal motor vehicle safety standards.without properly securing that child in a rear seat in an appropriate child passenger restraint system

Dear Gomes Community,

All of us at Gomes are shocked and deeply saddened by the tragic death of Greg Muck.  His presence will be sorely missed.  He was liked and respected by all those who knew him.  The students who were in his class have been profoundly touched by this tragedy.

We can all take some solace in the good and lasting work that Greg did in his too-brief lifetime.  The results of his outstanding teaching and his beneficial influence on students will live on.

If you wish to send your condolences to the family, you may drop off correspondence at the office and it will be forwarded.

Sincerely,

Gomes School Staff

  • Clarification for the 6th grade parents regarding the Pertusis immunization requirement for 7th grade. The correct phone number for the W.O.W. Mobile Health Clinic for immunizations is 510 608-3203. These resources are for families without insurance or with Medi-Cal. The incorrect phone number was on the flyer that was distributed in the 7th grade enrollment packets.
