Hannah C. a first grader from Mission San Jose Elementary School Fremont was announced as a winner in the K-2 category for artwork entered in the 2013 Endangered Species Day Youth Art Contest on April 22, 2013 by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Endangered Species Coalition, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, and the International Child Art Foundation. The art contest is an integral part of the 8th annual National Endangered Species Day on May 17, 2013.
Two other first graders from MSJE, Shravya R. and Keertana S. were also among the semifinalist in the K-2 category.
Considering that more than 2,100 pieces were entered by young artists throughout the country, this is a significant and prestigious accomplishment. The students' art will be displayed later at the U.S. Botanic Garden in Washington, D.C and can also be viewed at

Donations for Fremont Youth and Family Services
At the book fair we collected donations to purchase books for Fremont Youth & Family Services. The students put their donations in one of three boxes depending on what activity they hoped to get Mr. Graves to perform. He kept his promise by singing karaoke at lunchtime to the great enjoyment of the children. In November the books that were purchased with the donations were presented to Iris Preece from Fremont Youth & Family Services. Thank you to Ms. Preece for coming to our school and talking to the students at both lunch periods. Thank you also to Sibhi and Jasmine from Room 10 and Ajay and Charlotte from Room 23 for helping to present the books to Ms. Preece. Their teachers, Mrs. Covey and Ms. Reese, deserve thanks as well for helping with this!
